Admittedly, different readers and gamers will divide characters from the Harry Potter series of novels into different alignment categories. The assignment of an alignment to each character is based on the actions (and to a lesser extent, the personality) of each character throughout the seven books. Some characters were easier to categorize than others. For example, Dolores Umbridge is an exemplar of the lawful evil character. Draco Malfoy seemed to be more lawful evil than neutral evil and Argus Filch, lawful to the extreme, did not appear to be sufficiently villainous to warrant an assignment to evil. Many may argue that Harry himself was chaotic good, but then how would Fred and George Weasley be categorized? Severus Snape was a difficult character to place but since his actions were based primarily on personal allegiances, I thought it fitting to make him true neutral. Characters associated with the Ministry of Magic seemed lawful neutral for the most part. Members of the Order of Phoenix seemed mostly neutral good, while Death Eaters were typically neutral evil (with notable exceptions).
